Written and edited by Abhijat Joshi and Chopra, the film stars Farhan Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles alongside Aditi Rao Hydari and Manav Kaul. Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham make extended appearances. The film’s dialogue and additional dialogue were written by Abhijeet Deshpande and Gazal Dhaliwal, respectively. It earned a total of ₹5.57 crore (US$810,000) on 8 January 2016, the opening day of its release at the domestic box office, much of it from the Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh circuits. The film had a moderate opening at the overseas box office on its first day, and collected ₹4 crore (US$580,000).
Domestic revenues increased for each of the next two days of the film’s opening weekend. On its second day the film earned ₹7 crore (US$1.0 million), and collected ₹8.24 crore (US$1.2 million) on its third, for an opening weekend total of ₹21.01 crore (US$3.0 million). Daily international revenues declined as the weekend progressed, with total overseas collections rising to Rs ₹7.36 crore (US$1.1 million) after two days,[58] and ₹10.48 crore (US$1.5 million) after three.

Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Daanish Ali (Farhan Akhtar) lives with his wife Ruhana (Aditi Rao Hydari) and little daughter Noorie. One day, while Daanish is driving with his wife and daughter, he spots the terrorist Farooq Rameez and chases him. Noorie is killed in the ensuing shootout while Rameez escapes. Ruhana is shattered and blames Daanish for Noorie’s death. Daanish later kills Rameez during a police operation, angering his seniors, who wanted Rameez alive to find out which politician he was going to meet.
